Dear Rose parents,

Due to a possible “stomach bug,” we ask that you keep your student home if they are feeling nauseous or have stomach cramps. If they do not vomit or have diarrhea, they may return to school the next day.

The following directives are from the Santa Clara County Health Department. If your student does experience vomiting or diarrhea at home, please keep them home and notify your student’s school attendance secretary. Any student who reports stomach illness at school will be sent home immediately. Your student must stay home 48 hours AFTER their illness has cleared. In addition, the health department encourages you to take your child to the doctor for a stool sample. Students with negative results may return to school before the 48 hours.

We urge you to disinfect any area where vomit or diarrhea comes in contact within your home with bleach-based cleaners (1 cup of chlorine bleach with 1 gallon of water).

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Health Clerk Monica Garcia, Principal Nanci Pass or, Assistant Principal Lori Nuno at (408)635-2668.

Thank you for your partnership as we support our students and their health.

Dear Parents and Staff,

I wanted to make you aware of an issue that continues to spread throughout social media outlets and the news.  The "creepy clown" or "clowning" phenomenon has been an issue in other parts of the country and we're beginning to hear stories of concerns in other Bay Area locations and in Southern California.  "Clowning" includes dressing up as a scary clown and frightening or harassing people.  The definition is very vague and can include a wide range of threats from minor to serious.

We were informed that last night a photo of a clown in front of one of our schools was posted to Instagram.  Milpitas police investigated and found three youths with a clown costume, the police talked with their parents about the incident.  Should we be informed of any other incidents, we will work with Milpitas police to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community.  Please do not hesitate to report any threats to the MPD and your school principal.

It is unfortunate that social media is being used to promote disruptive behavior.  As related by other school districts, there have been students spreading this rumor by posting Instagram and Facebook comments that have been perceived as threatening.  Let's work together to remind our Milpitas youth that making a social media post that threatens a school and/or any student is considered a serious offense.

We appreciate our community for being vigilant and helping our district as we work together to be informed and mindful of events that may be topics of discussion for our children.

Thank you for being our partners in building a strong MUSD Family and community in which WE can all feel valued and safe.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Jordan

Interim Superintendent

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It was reported to us that two male middle school students were approached by a man and a young boy in a 4 door car yesterday, the boy asked the students if they would like a ride, and they declined, then reported the incident to their parent.  Please see the attached letter with points to discuss with your children and teens about staying safe.  Always walk to and from school in pairs or groups.

Please contact the Milpitas Police Department if you have any additional information.

Your child's safety is our number one concern and we thank you for working together with us to remind them of these strategies that will help them to stay safe when they are away from home.

Sincerely,

Nanci Pass

Principal
